Do you ever think you want another dog? Well we did too, and it all started with our first dog Allie!
Allie just turned nine, and we noticed that when she was the only dog around, she was getting less and less active. She didn’t have that spark in her that she used to about walks or even fetching her ball. Then, we took care of Ryder’s parent’s dog, Willow, for a few days and the old Allie came back! It was then that I just knew, Allie needed a companion.
A couple days after Willow went home, I talked to Ryder about seriously getting a dog, and he said, “okay!” we knew that we for sure wanted to adopt a dog, since there are SO many pups that need to be loved, so I started by looking at the local humane societies and pounds. Luckily, now there are pet listings online, so you can look at the pets that they have, without even having to drive over to the location! That was when we first found Walter, and laughed about how human his name was! After a few days, we decided on a time and made an appointment to take Allie to meet a few of the pets. At first, she was nervous, and then the first pet we met, just wanted to herd her everywhere and you could just tell Allie was visibly annoyed. We knew that wouldn’t work, so we asked if they had another dog that was calmer, but still young and playful, they said that was Walter.
Walter and Allie bounded right away! He was so excited to meet her, and she loves him! We walked out of the pound an hour later with an excited puppy in hand and Allie, now I have my hands full!
Walter enjoys long walks with Ryder, chewing up every toy we buy him, and his puppy pool! We love having this new edition in our family, although it has been a reminder of what training a dog is like, we have our carpet cleaner in hand and a smile!
Keep checking back for more Walter stories and updates!
