If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram then you know that this past weekend I took a trip to Venice! The canal was so pretty and I think that I actually liked the food more here than I did in Florence. There was more fish, more fruit, and of course more Bellini! For those of you that aren’t familiar, Bellini is a peach puree and a Prosecco wine mixed together. In my opinion, it is the perfect beach or summer drink. The whole time that I was drinking it I was wishing I was sitting on the beach with my favorite book!
The first night was an absolute blast. After a day of tours of a few churches and a palace on St. Mark’s square we sat down and enjoyed dinner near our hotel at Ristorante Lineadombra. The view was absolutely amazing and being able to watch the sunset I couldn’t help but think about how amazing our Creator is and how much of a blessing that this trip has been already. (I am halfway done can you believe it?!)
Saturday it was rainy but that didn’t stop us! We went on a tour of the Academia and another church that was near our hotel. The one thing that I am fascinated by, in every single building, is the architecture and the size of the art that people were able to paint and construct. Every museum and palace that we tour I am constantly asking myself how they were able to paint the ceilings and frame them so intricately. The quality of all of the buildings are far beyond any that would be built today and I wish that we still constructed buildings with the care and passion that they used to construct every room in a building. Everything here is breathtaking.
Saturday afternoon after eating pizza at Osteria al Duomo in Murano. (Highly recommend) We went to go watch a glass blowing show. I videoed part of it and honestly, I am still amazed at the craftsmanship and skill that you have to have to make glass. It was beautiful and the colors were so vibrant!
Once we were finished with the glass blowing and admiring their gallery of amazing pieces we took the ferry for about 20 minutes to the island of Burano. The island that I had been dying to see for about 3 months now! Sadly, it was still rainy, but we made the best of it and took lots of fun pictures! The gelato in the candy shop that is along the main drag of houses is actually worth the money, and made for great pictures!
This weekend went by like a flash of lightening and I wish that I could live it over again, but slow it down just a tad. Sunday we had the day to explore so a group of gals and I brunched (Like typical southern girls from America) and enjoyed fresh fruit and the famous Bellini drink. After exploring the town just a little more and stopping for gelato just one last time, we hopped on a train and headed back to Florence!
