The ketogenic diet isn’t always easy. I normally tell everyone that asks, that you have to become a planner. You can’t let your body become hungry and be unprepared! You absolutely HAVE to have things on hand to snack or grab and go for lunch so that you don’t catch yourself in a hangry place during the day. For me that is the #1 key to success for the Ketogenic Diet!

The Keto is also a diet that requires the basic necessities from the grocery store. I decided to compile my go-to list for when I’m following the ketogenic diet.

Protein

Let’s talk about protein. It is one of the keys to ketogenic diet success in my opinion. Having a solid protein with vegetables on the side is a go-to at my house for dinner. With all of the vegetable and protein combinations, you almost can’t get tired of it. My favorite proteins are ground turkey, chicken breasts, ground beef, venison, shrimp, and tilapia.

Vegetables

Vegetables are an essential part of the ketogenic diet. The more of them you eat, the better. Here are my favorite ketogenic diet approved veggies and what I normally keep stocked in my fridge/freezer:

  1. Broccoli
  2. Cauliflower
  3. Bell Peppers (All Colors)
  4. Jalapenos
  5. Avocados
  6. Tomatoes (Cherry and Roma)
  7. Zucchini & Zoodles
  8. Yellow Squash
  9. Red Onion
  10. Mushrooms
  11. Salad Mix
  12. Garlic
  13. Yellow Onion
  14. Fresh Herbs

With this combination the recipe ideas are endless! You can whip up some guacamole and eat it as a snack with the bell pepper slices. Slice a bunch of veggies and a protein and make fajitas. Sauteed Zoodles in the pan with olive oil, salt, and marinara for some healthy pasta. You could even make a mean salad!

Easy Snacks

The biggest question that I hear from people wanting to follow the ketogenic diet, is what snacks that I eat throughout the day that are fast and easy to pack for work or on the go! Here are my favorite keto approved snacks!
1. Meat and Cheese Roll-Ups – Pick your favorite lunch meat and sliced cheese, then roll them up together into a little meat and cheese wrap! I normally do three slices of meat per one slice of cheese. Then I keep them in the fridge in baggies with two in each. Super easy grab and go snack that also stores well in the fridge!
2. Sargento Balance Breaks- these are prepackaged and available next to the cheese and Lunchables! They are so easy to throw in your bag for work or when you are on the go. They have lots of different combinations of cheese, nuts, and sweet dark chocolate!
3. Frozen Steamable Edamame – You can find these in the frozen vegetable aisle, but they are great little snacks if you are looking for something packed with protein!
4. Bell Peppers and Guacamole – You would think that bell peppers would taste bad but they do well as a substitute for chips! I love this combo and it is great to have while you are watching TV or a movie and get the munchies.

There are honestly so many keto friendly snacks and recipes that you can find on Pinterest or other places of the internet. Be sure to check out my recipes that I have posted that are keto friendly too!
