Purple Milkshakes in Little Rock on the way to Memphis, TN
If you have never stopped at Purple Cow you definitely should put it on your Arkansas Bucket List! I lived in Little Rock growing up as a kid and we went here at least once a week, I have so many memories at this restaurant and I love going back every chance I get. Oh, and of course, I always have to color a coloring sheet while I’m waiting!
Local on the Square and Midtown
Friday night when we got into Memphis we met up with another couple on the trip for dinner at Local. I was not expecting the food to be that good, being in a bar/pub setting but it was absolutely amazing!! I had the Short Ribs and I loved every second of it!
Midtown is the cutest area full of shops and great food. We only got to walk around it after dinner Friday night but if I was ever in Memphis again this would definitely be the area I would spend most of my time in. There were so many shops that I wanted to stop in, and there was great murals on the buildings as well!
Central BBQ
Obviously, Memphis is known for its out of this world barbecue. So, after asking a couple of our local friends everyone said that Central BBQ on Central Ave. was the place to go! I am not normally a huge fan of barbecue just because I normally struggle finding something that I can eat there, but this was hands down the best barbecue I have ever had! It was so good Ryder (the biggest food snob I know) was raving about it for hours afterward! We split the Full Rack Plate for two and it was plenty for both of us!!
The Arcade
I was basically asleep when we went to The Arcade for brunch. But it is the oldest diner in Memphis and there is a reason it is still around! The biscuits were nice and fluffy, the coffee was hot, and the atmosphere took you back at least 25 years. We waited for about 30 minutes to get a table for four and the wait in the rain was worth it. The nice thing is once you get your name on the list you are free to walk around the little area downtown while you wait because they are able to text you when your table is almost ready. Super convenient!!
Gibson’s Donuts
Before we made the long five hour drive back home we decided to stop off at the famous Gibson’s Donuts for breakfast to go. I had heard that they were supposed to be really good, and they were amazing (basically all Memphis food is amazing). Ryder and I got 7-8 and drinks for a little over $7.00 which I consider a deal since they were all specialty donuts! The one above was the Red Velvet Donut, I was worried that it would be too rich, but it actually wasn’t!
Overall we had a wonderful weekend eating great food and trying to soak up all Memphis has to offer. We stopped at the famous Memphis Bass Pro Shop Pyramid, ate the BBQ, and were in food comas basically the whole time! Hopefully, the next time that we decide to go, the rain decides not to follow us there!
