Last night my friends and I were all standing around our kitchen and we got on the topic of drugs. We all know someone that indulges in recreational drugs and none of us agree with it. The one thing that we started thinking about is why do people do drugs? Why do people want to get to this ultimate high, or rather, feel like they have to?
The answer is this: in the world we live in today everyone is on a high.
Whether your high is a substance or an accomplishment we all have our vices. People have social media and with that comes this fake life and idealization that we are perfect and our lives are without any problems or worries at all. I constantly see friends posting about their “glamorous” lives when I know that behind the scenes they might be failing a class, struggling with their body image, or any thing else that people go through. The fact of the matter is, life is hard. Life is not meant to be easy and when you start to pretend like it is you are only fooling yourself.
Our world is living the lie that everyone and everything in this life owes you something. Our society is entitled and believes that because they participated in something that they should receive a gold star. WRONG! You have to teach our kids from an early age that you will fail and it will be okay. That there are consequences to how you treat people and that believe it or not, this world owes you absolutely nothing.
Jesus owes you absolutely nothing. And the moment that you started to realize that the better. God has blessed you with things in this life not because you are deserving, but because he is loving and gracious. If I know anything it is that I should have never received answered prayers the times that I have, but God has grace and that is why I did.
So stop living in denial. Stop posting your perfect life. Share your struggles with others and help people when they are in a storm that you have overcome. Stop being entitled and work for what you want. Stop living on a high.
