Honestly, I was terrified to fly for 9 hours. I hate being cooped up in a car for that long and I can never seem to get enough sleep! Man was I wrong about comparing the two! The 9-hour flight was SO much better than the car because not only can you use the restroom whenever you need to, they also feed you dinner and breakfast as well as plenty refreshments and snacks! Also, my personal favorite perk, was the fact that I was able to get ready for bed as if I was actually going to sleep in my own bed! So without further ado these are the tips that I have come up with for how to survive the long flight!

1. Neck Pillow and Sleeping Mask

This was a lifesaver! I always get cricks in my neck when I sleep on a plane or in a car so this was VERY helpful when trying to sleep! I also was able to tuck the blanket that they provided in between my shoulder and the pillow so I didn’t have to constantly keep pulling it where I wanted it and that was an added bonus! The sleeping mask came in handy because no matter who opened a window on the flight I never woke up from it and it gave me the feeling that I wasn’t on a plane that I was in my own bed!

2. Makeup Wipes

I like to wash my face before going to bed as many nights as possible and if I don’t I still like to use a Makeup Wipe so I brought a packet of them with me in my backpack. When it was time to head on to bed I just went to the bathroom took off my makeup and then was set to go on to bed!

3. Toothbrush & Mouthwash

Another thing that made me feel 10x better and more refreshed was brushing my teeth before going to sleep as well as when I woke up in the morning after I had breakfast. It was great to not worry about if I was going to kill the customs official with stinky breath and I felt like I was ready to start my day.

4. Travel Makeup

So what I consider travel makeup is just enough makeup to cover your bases and look presentable the next morning. No fake eyelashes necessary just the basics! This gave me more confidence as I was walking into a completely new country and gave me one less thing to feel insecure about!

5. Old Cosmetic Bags

My parents joke that I am a hoarder sometimes, but it comes in handy! I always get the gifts from Clinique when they have them so I have more cosmetic bags than one girl needs, but it came in handy while packing my carry on and my backpack! I set aside a different cosmetic bag for each thing such as makeup, electronic chargers, etc. and was able to compartmentalize all of my things! This kept me from digging for ages in my backpack while trying to find something, and I was much more efficient with my time when finding my passport and such for customs on the way into the country.

I hope these 5 tips have aided you in your guidance for an overnight flight! Another thing that I didn’t bring but wish I had would have been a set of ear plugs or some noise canceling headphones! I had a baby in the row in front of me so I can assure you I will never forget those again!!
