When I traveled to Haiti in high school, I was rudely awakened to the fact that hot showers are not common in all countries. Today I am thankful for hot showers in the dead of winter, when my muscles are sore, or when I am sick. I am also thankful for the hot water heater that produces hot water, and the electricity needed to run the hot water heater.
It is a true luxury to have hot showers. Just to show how much, I wanted to share some statistics for you.
- In North America, 1 Trillion Gallons of water is used solely for showers lasting for an average of 13 minutes.
- In the US, on average women shower 6 times a week, and men shower an average of 7.
- 60% of the world still doesn’t have access to water-related sanitation, such as showers or toilets. In other words, 4.2 billion people don’t have hot showers at their fingertips.
Do you think you should be thankful for it now?
I will always be thankful for my daily hot shower to wake me up in the morning. Without it, I would be pretty cranky and probably still asleep.
