So one day into the 21 days of thankfulness posts, and I already missed one… I am definitely imperfect if you can’t tell! Ha! But, I wanted to make up for it by doubling up today with two things that I am thankful for my church and friends.
Friends
As a junior high/ high school girl, I was very self-conscious about the fact that I didn’t have a huge group of girls that I was close with. I had Caylinn Lange when I was in 8th grade and still do this day. We did everything together and I can still call her no matter what time of day and pick up where we left off! When I got to college, I finally understood that God didn’t want me to have a huge group of friends at the time. He waited until college to bless me with some of the kindest and selfless girls that I have ever known.
If I could write a letter to my 16-year-old self, I would definitely mention that. I would also mention that, I will in no way shape or form deserve their friendship, love, or support. I am thankful for friends because without them life would be boring.
They laugh with me at funny Facebook videos, call when they know I’m having a hard time, and are just overall there for me when I need it most. Although I love my family and appreciate their support always, it is such a blessing to have friends too.
My friends actually are the reason that I was able to find my church. When I graduated, so did some of my main girls. It slowly started to don on me that I was going to have to find more friends with mine moving away. This sent me on a spur of how do I solve this problem thoughts. So I decided to go to church.
Church
Have you ever decided to try a new church? It is terrifying. Thankfully my dad’s business partner, who is also my boss, is really nice. His family goes to Central United Methodist Church in town and they let me sit with them. Since I don’t have anyone to go with most of the time, this is super helpful and I don’t feel alone. I love my church. CUMC is accepting, friendly, and encouragers. After a couple of months attending the church, I decided that I wanted to lead a junior high small group. I was able to start leading the 7th-grade girls and it has been so so rewarding for me.
I look forward to every Wednesday night because not only am I able to help these girls in their walk with Christ, they also have become my friends. They are funny, adventurous, and honestly, sometimes I envy them, but they amaze me every week. I could not be more thankful for them and the opportunity to get involved in my church.
I hope through this exercise you guys are able to also think about the things that you are thankful for as well. Until tomorrow!
