I am thankful for a comfy bed. That sounds like something that is so ordinary and normal, but not everyone has one.
When I was in high school I traveled to Haiti to serve on a Mission Trip after the hurricane. It was then that I noticed that my spacious bedroom with my full sized comfy bed was definitely a luxury. It was heartbreaking to see all of the smiling faces of kids standing outside of their dirt huts. Just by looking at them, I knew that they had never enjoyed the luxury of sleeping in a comfy bed and probably never would. It honestly broke my heart.
I also felt that heartbreaking feeling again when I traveled to Europe. Although most of the people there are in the middle class, not all of them are. There is a homeless population in this world that is a lot larger than everyone realizes. When you see it right in your face it is pretty hard to avoid. No matter if you are in the United States, Africa, Haiti, or even England. There are people starving and cold on the streets. They don’t have a comfy bed or a home. I encourage you this holiday season to remember these people and to really count your blessings. Although I am only sharing 21 things that I am thankful for, the list could go on for years and years. The Lord has blessed each and every one of us in His own way, so be sure to thank Him every once in a while.
I am thankful today and every day for the many blessings in my life, but one that I am thankful for in particular is a comfy bed and a good night’s sleep.
